This morning I visited the certified farmers market held Sunday mornings in the parking lot of Northridge shopping center in Salinas. It has been some years since the last time I checked it out. It has a few more farm stands than the Saturday marketplace downtown and is strictly a farmers market. But it's still not that large and again I was somewhat disappointed to not have more local vendors participating.
I picked up some very ripe and squishy as jelly Golden Sweet variety apricots from Minazzoli for $2 per pound. That's way above my mom's value threshold, but I knew that once she tasted 'em, she'd understand.

Strawberries from Santa Maria were big, red and ripe all the way through, wonderfully fragrant, and sweetly delicious. I couldn't help but think of Ruth Lafler as I dutifully noted that the variety name was Galinda.

Organic heirloom tomatoes from Munak Ranch in Paso Robles were a deal at $2.50 per pound, and the samples helped me make up my mind. I also bought a Rocky Sweet (galia) melon for $2. The French melons aren't quite ripe enough for me yet, but I'm glad to know that I'll find them here.
