Really appreciate some direction for a booking for a memorable evening, although we are close to the wire for booking now!
Here's our current dilemmas
We're arriving from London Friday, leaving Mon mid afternoon. We are staying in Times Square.
Thanks to posters on here we are sorted for some of the time
(Fri prob Bar Modern, MOMA visit,
somewhere for a drink en route? not sorted
then definitely Danji
Sat - brunch Locanda Verde - booked
Somewhere for a pre dinner drink - not sorted, we'll be coming from Times Square after changing
Sat dinner - Txikito was suggested, looks great - we called, they said we'd need to walk in - hope there wont be tooo long a wait?
Sun - breakfast? not sorted
Sun drinks - not sorted
Sun dinner - not sorted - eek!
Mon last lunch - either pre or post collecting luggage en route to jfk (we need to arrive airport at 3pm)
The Sunday night dilemma!
After joint discussions at home (!) - my boyfriend is keen on buzzy, sexy, easy 'luxe', needs to feel 'special', glamorous, without being stuffy, a good position at a table - ie not stuck by the toilets or in an echoy room out the way, great service (doesn't need to be italian but guess he's thinking that somewhere that had the atmosphere and design and great food, of Londons River Cafe in hammersmith if that helps - and we do enjoy great Italian). We'll want to dress up, and he'll wear a fab suit - we're 'young', extrovert 50's, love to have a good time. Hope this detail helps.
Think if the Modern had been available we might have booked there possibly?
Wonder about Public?
Also, he especially would like to find a bar for sunday pre dinner drinks that feels glamorous, "New Yorky", perhaps has a great view (maybe even rooftop? as the forecast is good) - anyway has a wow factor - in London we may have gone to the reservations cocktail bar at Claridges. Death and Co early 6pm has been suggested. Looks good but open to other ideas.
We have looked at Empellon Cocina - recommended by Kathryn - not sure about the menu as we are not familiar with Mexican food - will it be too 'heavy'? and will it feel special?
Vinegar house, not sure either.
Any suggestions welcome. We are feeling a tad panicky at this stage with nothing booked yet.
If there are other ideas for any of our other slots that would be great too. We are trying for a mix of key spots booked and fixed, but leaving flexibility for doing all the touristy stuff that I'll do doubt want to do as its my first time - staten island ferry, go up a very tall skyscraper building to get the view etc
yours in anticipation
