Sunday Brunch - Breeze - Century Plaza Hotel

Read about Breeze (located inside the Century Plaza Hotel) in the Los Angeles Times Calendar section a few weeks back, and decided to take my mother there for Mother's Day Brunch. Whereas every other restaurant is packed on Mother's Day, Breeze had plenty of empty tables. I'm assuming the $55 per person price tag was what kept people away. Yeah, $55 is a lot of money to spend for Sunday brunch, but I must say, it was actually worth it.

Unlike the cattle call at the Ritz-Carlton, where they jam everyone into a ballroom, and you can't get anyone's attention, the staff was very attentive, and checked up on us frequently. Champagne and fresh squeezed orange juice were served immediately, as was choice of coffee, tea, soda, etc. Silverware was changed with every plate. Down to the chow:

Fresh seafood bar: raw oysters, cold crab legs, and jumbo shrimp (already peeled). They also had a huge jar of Sangria which was very refreshing on this hot day.

Salad bar: All the ingredients are there, tell the chef what you want, and they'll mix it up for you.

Sushi bar: although there is no sushi chef present, lots of sashimi, tuna, and various rolls

Omelette bar: pretty much the same as any other buffet, original buttermilk and blueberry pancakes also available

Hot food: Thick applewood bacon, sausages, home fried potatoes, asparagus, steamed rice, fresh paella. The jumbo fresh shrimp, like the type served at Chinese restaurants was a little overcooked, but I still managed to throw down half a dozen. They also had a fish station, with huge fresh red snapper. These things were at least 18 inches in length, and deep fried. They also had fresh steamed fish, served chinese style with soy sauce, oil, ginger, and green onion. I saw one woman ask for the entire fish, which they glady gave her, and she did eat the entire thing by herself!

The desserts were amazing. Bread pudding, bananas foster, and various cakes, pies, and tarts. My father was looking for cheesecake, they didn't have any, BUT the manager went in the back and brought him out a slice of cheesecake, covered with fresh fruits, light strawberry sauce, topped off with a chocolate tiara. We thought for sure this $10 dessert was going to be added to the bill, but there was no charge.

All the food was excellent, valet parking was included, and we'll definately be going back for Father's Day.
