Sunday at Antico Forno-North End

I had family in town last night and they were looking for somewhere kid friendly in the North End to have dinner. Now, I rarely pay attention to posts here for kid friendly places but thought I had read something that Antico Forno might fit the bill so we got a reservation there. They sat us pretty much on time but boy, those kids were hungry and the crying and screaming was wearing on me. Good thing that there were lots of other noisy kids (so we weren’t the only loud table) and we had plenty of wine to drink  We ordered some salads to start and I had the mozzarella and tomato. I thought the cheese was good but for this time of year, I was very disappointed in the tomatoes. They were just not that flavorful or juicy. Everyone really liked their main courses (almost all ordered pastas). I had the rigatoni with ham, peas, mushrooms and onions in a mascarpone tomato sauce. I loved the sweet, creamy sauce but thought the pasta could have been just a bit more al dente. My uncle had the baked fusilli with eggplant, peppers, zucchini and goat cheese in a tomato sauce and he clearly loved it as he cleaned his plate. The kids thankfully got their pizza which quieted them down but they were not pleased when we were all eating appetizers and they had nothing yet. According to the mothers at the table, a kid friendly restaurant would serve the children right away. I didn’t know this rule and apparently neither did the waiter. All in all, I can see why people would want to come here for the baked pastas as they were quite tasty. As far as atmosphere it wasn’t my favorite but I’m guessing it was also especially crowded due to restaurant week plus lots of tourists out and about in the North End on such a nice day.
