Gretchen's - Sun Valley Lodge - Upscale Coffee Shop - great service, average, not bad, but average to good food.
The Ram - Sun Valley Village - ask for a booth - good bread & butter, house salad was excellent - one of the best balsamic dressings ever, foie gras ravioli w/ white truffle foam were good, but not nearly as exciting as they sounded, escargot - good, trout with pecan crust - very good, once you scraped off a bunch of the crust - and I love nut crusts, but this was just too much. Nice service & they split our entree very nicely.
Sushi on Second - loud, but very good. Best hamachi I've had in ages, ahi was good, not stellar, ebi - eh, good ikura, interesting rolls, good miso, excellent shrimp (huge!) & vegetable (tons!) tempura. Sushi chefs not a whole lot of fun -too bad. They forgot several of the dishes we ordered, but we were so stuffed, we were grateful. They push you to order all at once - resist!!
Sawtooth Club - sat at the bar (it was women's figure skating final night!), shared the steamed clams (not on menu) - littleneck, not manila, but I actually preferred these are much meatier - incredible broth - rich, not watery at all - I demanded a spoon to slurp it up (we'd run through 2 baskets of bread!) & embarrassed everyone, but didn't care, spicy seafood linguini very good & medium rare filet undercooked, but also very good. I'm still dreaming of those clams & their broth!
The Kneadery for breakfast - Charming place - check out the washbowls in the ladies room! Tons of food - all good & very filling. I wasn't so excited about my French toast as it wasn't super - eggy, but husband like his Mexican eggs.
Ciro - new on Walnut Street - restaurant & wine bar - again, we sat at the bar - salads looked excellent, but I'd already ordered Salmon w/ a lemon cream sauce on spaghettini, but they substituted penne for me. Hubby ordered a custom pizza - pesto, shrimp, kalamata olives & mozzarella - yummy! Casual & fun place. Excellent homemade breadsticks.
Rosina's was highly recommended, but they were swamped when we arrived & only 2 serving, so we decided to flag that.
The Roosevelt - lunch - my turkey sandwich would have been better with fresher bread, but their clam chowder was excellent & husband seemed to enjoy his fish & chips. Again, friendly & good service.
River Run Lodge - most amazing base ski lodge you've ever seen - Oriental carpets, marble & granite baths, incredible chandeliers... and pretty great food. Their salad bar also has all kinds of smoked fish, cheeses, great olive walnut bread, interesting salads, grilled veggies, all kinds of stuff - totally overflowed my plate, then couldn't eat 1/3 of it! They were also serving full rack of lamb meal & steamed mussels & clams & everyone seemed pretty darned happy. Was also able to get a wonderful glühwein from the bartender at the end of each day.
Can I go back now??
