Summer - Winter Restaurant Burlington, MA this past weekend

My wife and I were at Summer - Winter in the Burlington, MA Marriott Hotel for our third visit this past Saturday evening. First of all let me get the bad part out of the way. We both enjoy sitting at the bar when having dinner but I would strongly recommend doing this at Summer - Winter. This was second time we tried having at dinner at the bar and each time we ended up moving over to the Raw Bar because of the attitude and lack of service by the bartenders at the main bar. It took forever to get their attention and then when we did we felt like they were doing us a favor by getting us what we asked for. They only had two bartenders on duty on Saturday evening and they seemed very harried trying to take care of people sitting at the bar and keeping up with drink orders from the dining room. In the end we moved over to the Raw Bar where we enjoyed a very nice meal.

I started with a standard shrimp cocktail. There were six medium sized shrimp which had been freshly cooked and were served with a traditional cocktail sauce. Nothing special here but it was well executed so no complaints. I followed this with an order of their braised Beef Short Ribs. This was an excellent choice. There were two very generous short ribs that literally melted in my mouth. They had been braised in a very tasty wine sauce and were served with a delicious potato au gratin that was layered with carrots and, I think, parsnips. It was an absolutely delicious combination, especially for a frigid Saturday evening.

My wife and I had lunch a few weeks back at Summer - Winter and she loved their version of Cream of Tomato Soup. It wasn't on the dinner menu but she asked our waiter if it was still available. He came back within a few minutes and told us the chef would be happy to make it for her. We thought this was a very nice thing to do especially on a night when the kitchen was very busy. The soup was as delicious as she remembered it being and was served with a small portion of a toasted cheese sandwich floating in it. She also had the Romaine Salad with Blue Cheese dressing and their Hashed Brussel Sprouts. Both of these dishes were very well done with very fresh vegetables and buttery sprouts.

The service at the Raw Bar was excellent and we enjoyed talking with the person working behind the bar taking care of all the raw bar orders.

Each of our three dining experiences at Summer - Winter have been very good but just don't opt for dining at the main bar and I think anyone would enjoy the experience.
