Had a very nice meal on Sunday night at Sultan which is right across the street from the Hilton Hotel and just up the street from Glide Memorial Church. Read some of the old posts and hoped to try some of the Gujarti dishes but the chef who does them wasn't working that night. So we ordered off of the regular menu and were quite happy with what we tried.
Had vegetable somosas with a tamarind sauce and fried chicken with a yoghurt dip. Both were expertly fried and nicely seasoned. Continued on with the butter chicken, vegetable biryani (rice), the grilled lamb sausage, raita, plain naan and the onion naan. The butter chicken was a favorite but everything was clean tasting and well seasoned. I also had a mango lassi drinik - good, more mango than yoghurt-y and a bit on the sweet side. Tried the rice pudding and the mango ice cream for dessert....the rice pudding was loose and infused with Indian spices. The mango ice cream had a nice flavor with a texture that wasn't so smooth but I think that's not uncommon at Indian restaurants? Would definitely go back. Plus it's a pleasant space and relatively quiet if you actually want to have a conversation. Very reasonable prices....5 of us and our bill came to the high $50's with a couple of beers included. Good service also. And I believe that their offerings are Halal.
