Suggestions for food to take on the plane?

smiles33 | Mar 12, 2016 09:46 AM

We are flying out of DCA on a Monday afternoon (3 pm flight) and have a long flight back to the West Coast. I would love suggestions for a place where we can both eat an early lunch and order food for the plane. I prefer to be at the airport by 1:30 pm at the latest so we can get through security and be safely at the gate well before boarding begins. I welcome any advice re: this, too (do we need to show up more than 90 min in advance if we're not checking bags?).

I assume it's easiest for us if it's one restaurant for both the meal and the to-go meals, but I'm game to consider two separate options provided they're in the same neighborhood or on the way to DCA.

I would prefer good food over convenience (so no need to suggest places offering sandwiches, pizza, hamburgers, etc.). I don't mind packing forks but would prefer not getting steak or something that needs to be sliced. Avoiding super smelly food is good, too, since we're trapped on a plane.

We have 2 adults and 2 kids under 10 to feed. See my original post about our eating preferences and our DC planning is here: http://www.chowhound.com/post/norcal-...

Thanks in advance!
