I'm moving to Denver (from San Francisco) in about 2 weeks and am looking forward to having a new city full of restaurants to explore. I'm hoping to get a few tips on places to start.
Mostly I like small family run operations serving pretty much any type of tasty food and am willing to drive for hours to find the right spot.
A couple specific suggestions I'm looking for are good Indian (especially with great curries and naan); favorite places for shawermas and hummus. Also am interested in small French bistros that are casual and welcoming. Oh yeah, opinions on bakeries with the best bread are most welcome also!
and to try to give as well as take, here's a couple places I tried on my last trip (over Thanksgiving):
I grabbed a shawerma at Damascus that was pretty tasty. (2276 S. Colorado Blvd). The hummus was good but I wasn't thrilled with the bread.
Also ate at an Ethiopian place that was very friendly, we had about 10 people and were treated great. The building was painted as a big Ethiopian flag and I think the place was called "Ethiopian Restaurant" but I'm not sure.
Had a burrito at Chez Jose in Cherry Creek, was impressed with the salsas but not as much with the burrito.
