I love Gramercy Tavern for its earthy refined atmosphere and excellent food that isn't too precious. Does someone have a recommendation for something equally atmospheric and delicious? I am responsible for picking a restaurant for dinner for 4 people who get together once a year. I have a little time (December 3) but not much. We are as interested in talking and visiting as enjoying a special dinner so good lighting and acoustics are important. My friends are world travelers who eat out all the time. We don't need to be surprised and amazed but comfortable and well served. Finally, my husband can't stand pretension in food; no fennel pollen or foam of any kind for him. I love desserts but am afraid to ask for too much. We will be coming from a Broadway matinee although location isn't a driving issue. Thanks in advance Chowhounds. I know someone can help.
