Sugar shack tips?

Plateaumaman | Apr 2, 2006 07:27 PM

Is there a trick to having a nice brunch at a good sugar shack/cabane a sucre near Montreal? We had a lovely drive in the country today over to Mont. St-Gregoire and were greeted with masses of traffic and huge lineups at all the sugar shacks there. It was like going to Ikea or worse. I was very impressed by the hundreds of people lining up for what must be hours to have some ham and eggs. I am guessing mid-week is a better bet? Or an early dinner? Do reservations help to avoid the lineups?

And who has the freshest, best food? I've been to sugar shacks three times in the past with my children's daycare groups (no problem there, no lineups in that case but oh the school bus ride, blech) and have found the quality of meals varies wildly from one to another. Any tips are appreciated although we might never dare to venture out again ...
