Went up to southern New Hampshire today to visit some sugar houses...
We first drove from Boston up to Folsom's Sugar House in Chester, NH (total trip was under an hour). The people there were extremely friendly, showed us the maple syrup making process, etc. They had samples of maple cream and maple syrup, and also sold 1 dollar maple sundaes (maple walnut ice cream with syrup and whipped cream). They were only selling Medium Amber syrup from this season.
After Folsom's we ate lunch at the restaurant in Chester. I had good chili, gf had a burger and sweet potato fries. Inexpensive, friendly, decent food. Then we headed to Londonderry (just off 93) to Peterson Sugarhouse. Had a similar tour, ate more ice cream sundae. They were mostly selling Medium Amber syrup here too, but I asked if they had any Light Amber, which they did. I personally prefer light amber so I bought some of that.
Both of these places are quite close and easy to get to from Boston, even closer from northern and western suburbs....I would recommend them both, especially if you have never seen the maple syrup making process before. They'll be open for at least another 2 weekends....
