Sue's Kitchen Willow Glen, SJ

Judith Hurley | Mar 15, 200301:50 PM

We had dinner at Sue's Kitchen in Willow Glen Thursday night. It's way better than it used to be. I know Sue's Kitchen has a good reputation, but I was never that impressed. The one in Mountain View at least had a little ambience even if the food was not spectacular, but the one in WG always seemed not too special, a little funky, and less than attentive service besides. Usually for Indian food we are most often likely to make the commute to Amber India. But this was an impromptu, motivated by the wind and rain, which deflected us from our original intention to head to a favorite Thai place a little further away.

We had samosas, mixed tandoori grill and matter paneer. The samosas were especially good, not at all bland, no cold spot in the middle. My only quibble was with the chutneys, which were mild and thin. The grill was excellent and there was plenty of it, same for the matter paneer. We ordered one a la carte and one full dinner, and the server (who happened to be the owner) added enough rice to make it ample for both of us, also threw in an order of pickle. The dinner includes nan and raita as well.

We were the only ones there, and we had a lovely visit with the owner, came away feeling almost as if we had visited someone's home.
