suboptimal shwarma at Mediterranean Wraps

For the first time in a decade, I was disappointed in my dinner at Mediterranean Wraps on California Avenue in Palo Alto.

The salad (mostly cucumber, tomato, red onion, parsley) was fresh and up to snuff. The pita was fine. The hummus was okay and had plenty of sumac sprinkled on top, although somehow it lacked its usual garlic bite. But the turnip pickle, usually my favorite part of the meal, was too salty and not crisp. Worst of all, the shwarma was out and out flavorless. It was mealy, dried out, and even the browned parts felt limp. I brought half the meal home to test later, and indeed the shwarma is just flavorless, characterless protein-texture.

I will assume this is an utter abberation and look forward to my next kufta kabab or falafel deluxe there. But I wondered if anyone had a similar disappointment at this reliable and long-lasting standby.

Mediterranean Wraps, 425 S California, Palo Alto.
