Strip mall treasures

Warthog | Jan 21, 2006 10:40 AM

We all have seen the little non-descript carry-out joints, perhaps with a few tables, in various strip malls. These are the sorts of places one never sees mentioned in reviews, or listed in any of the food guides, and yet some of them have been around for ages. While many serve to provide strictly functional food for busy folks, some of them may be unheralded treasures.

Here in the Baltimore area, I'd include the Salsa Grill (Security Boulevard, just east of the Beltway, north side of the street) and Thai Heaven, a place I only found due to a listing in one of those "two for one" coupon books. (see recent post with Thai Heaven as subject).

It occurs to me that there might be others - the little "stealth" places that those in the neighborhood know about, and that are easily overlooked by the rest of us.

So how about it Hounds - what are your favorite strip mall treasures, whether dine-in or carry out? And feel free to slip in wonderful little hole in the wall places that aren't technically in a strip mall. We're looking for a general type, not a tightly constrained category.
