The past several times I have bought fresh strawberries (the kind in the plastic box) they have had a very strong, unpleasant odor, similar to raw sewage or rotting vegetation. The berries, however, are not rotten; in fact, they look beautiful and taste very good. I don't believe anything is wrong with them as I have experienced this odor many times over the past year; the berries always looked and tasted fresh, and no one ever got sick. The berries are free of mold and the leaves are green.
Has anyone else experienced such an odor, or know what it is? I should note that the odor dissipates over time.
