Storing Prosciutto.

At COSTCO yesterday they had whole Prosciutto's at a very good price. Its not something I would eat or serve that much of in one sitting, so I am wondering how to store the remainder. Once sliced into it, do I need to store it in the fridge or can I just hang it in my cold room. My Italian neighbours hang all kinds of meats in their basement and cut off what they need.
