Stone House Market (Asheville) out of the way - worth the trip

From Asheville take Broadway out of town (passing UNCA) make a Left onto Old Leicester Rd (you'll cross the French Broad) and another Left onto Old Leicester Hwy - it will take about 10 minutes from downtown.
This tiny (6 tables inside, 4 outside) restaurant used to be a gas station. Owned by husband and wife team. Husband cooks, wife serves, makes salads, seats etc. The night we were there they had another server. Place was packed so you need reservations (232-1200). No menus - look at the chalkboard for the nite's specials. We had swordfish in an olive tapenade and grilled lamp chops with an apricot, cherry glaze. Both were good but could have used a bit more salt - and I NEVER salt things. Crusty round loaves of bread for each table - obviously homemade - fresh salads that came with the meals and inexpensive wine...For 2 entrees and 4 glasses of wine it was $40 though I think we didn't get charged for all the wine by mistake. Reminds me of small roadside restaurants in Germany and France.
