Andy's Orchard opened for the season on May 15. Yesterday was my first visit of the year. The entrance has been roped off like the lines for bank tellers with markers each six feet. Inside the door, you're asked to use hand sanitizer. Then a one-way lane makes a counter-clockwise loop around the store, ending back at the exit/entrance where the check out counter is now located with a plexiglass shield. Masks are required, and the three employees inside monitor social distancing. Not hard when there were only a couple other customers.

At the moment the only fresh fruits available are Coral cherries from the Central Valley and strawberries. The Corals are enormous, clearly graded for size, and almost look polished. They're very juicy, moderately crisp, medium-sweet but not that complex in flavor. But still quite good for an early season cherry and better than the two examples I've had in recent weeks at the farmers market. The 28 ounce box of Coral cherries is $15.

A sign on the checkout counter says it is sanitized after each customer. Apple Pay wasn't working on the credit card terminal so I did need to insert my credit card. But no signature was required for my $60 purchase and I kept the paper receipt.
