Stone Fruits 2017 @ Andy's Orchard in Morgan Hill

Andy's Orchard in Morgan Hill is my favorite source of tree-ripened stone fruit. It opened last week for the season. My first time to visit at the start of the harvest, beginning with cherries, and the displays looked eerily bare compared to what will available in the coming weeks. Fruits are all estate-grown unless marked otherwise.

We tasted all the cherries and the Governer Wood were the most complex and interesting to me. The slightly higher acidity sets off the flavors and sweetness beautifully. Described as a "yellow" cherry, these were quite ripe and mostly pale red with flashes of yellow. Small, but so good.

Black Tartarians are a perpetual favorite. Very soft and sweet as candy with a rich, deep flavor.

Italian Pie cherries are here now for those looking for sour cherries for baking.

The most abundant are the Brooks cherries, so juicy and tasty.

And finally, the earliest apricots, Sandy Cot, are coming in. I did not taste these.

Linked below is the harvest calendar.
