Just got back from a mini-vacation through ME, NH and VT. Had some really good food, particularly the "Barney Fife Pizza" at the Portsmouth Brewing Company and the antipasta at Bove's in Burlington, but the absolute highlight of the trip was Anthony's Diner in Saint Johnsbury.
Everything was homemade and unbelievably good - the sweetpotato fries were homemade, the deserts were all homemade, the FREAKING POTATO CHIPS were homemade! Far and away the best though, was the coleslaw. I'm a bit of a slaw snob and this may very well have been the best coleslaw I ever ate in my life! It was incredibly creamy without being too mayonaisey (if that's an actual word). The cabbage was extremely fresh and there was some sort of spice in the background that was absolutely perfect.
The service was top-rate and very fast and there is even a bookcase full of cookbooks to read for the short time you wait for your meal.
