Things are looking up a bit for us benighted Olympians. We have a taco truck on the west side that has been hanging around until dinner time, and it's pretty good. The menu's limited, but anything with chicken is particularly tasty. A nice mix of people can be found there most hours, by the way -- a break from culturally segregated Olympia normality.
Also, I've had mostly good experiences at the Bangkok Thai restaurant next to Fred Meyer's in Lacy. They have a light hand with the sauces, which is fine by me. (Fighting Lake Pontchartrain on my plate is a normal Oly-Thai experience, alas, not to mention curries as thick as Mt. Rainier mud flows, while we're in disaster mode.) I've been very happy with noodle dishes, stir fries and an order of larb. The only big disappointment was a runny and underspiced papaya salad a few weeks ago. Minor disappointment: they don't serve chilies swimming in nam pla on the side, my favorite hot stuff -- but no one else in Olympia does either. Anyway, they deserve more business.
