Stinky tofu in Manhattan's Chinatown

HLing | Aug 28, 2004 08:38 PM

For the handful of people who crave fried stinky tofu and Taiwanese Oyster Pancake, try Jabee's Orient at 3 Howard street between Lafayette and Centre street. This place offers individual shabu shabu at the table. The regular menu seem quite uninspiring but they offer a handful of Taiwanese specials, including the red faced duck cooked in ginger and Chinese rice wine, the Ginger wine chicken, and lamb stew.

The stinky tofu was quite light on the inside and crispy on the outside. The oyster pancake was quite authentic tasting. I hope to try the ginger wine duck when the weather turns colder.
