Stickey's BBQ in Teaneck....not good

big ern | Apr 12, 2005 02:00 PM

i gotta admit, my hopes were pretty high going into Stickey's for a late lunch last week. Read some good things and heard some decent word of mouth feedback.

but ugh....it was horrible. I know, I know...I don't expect much from any "BBQ" place in the tri-state, but this was flat out insulting. Cubby's beats this place hands down.

My friend and i got the full rack of pork ribs to start off with. While the rack was large ($18.95), the meat was literally SNAPPING off the bone, NOT falling or sliding. I shouldn't have to use a knife (a steak knife at that!!!) to separate a rib from the rack, but that's exaclty what happened....in fact they even give you a steak knife with the rack! unheard of. the meat was pretty tough and chewey. Sauce was OK, but it basically drowned the meat. No pink smoke ring in sight. best part was eating the fat/sauce soaked slices of white bread that were placed under the rack of ribs!

So, after that disaster, i ordered the brisket sandwich and my friend ordered the smoked roast beef....when the waitress brought out both sandwiches, we soon discovered that the meat inside both sandwiches was exactly the same!!!! Only difference was that my "brisket" sandwich was smothered in the same thick BBQ that covered the ribs, while my friend's "smoked roast beef" came with a choice of some other sauces. Come one now...that's a disgrace. Note to Stickey's: brisket is not sliced paper-thin. in fact, brisket should be nice and fatty. The meat i got on my sandwich was like Steak-um meat or really thinly sliced ribeye, almost what you'd find a cheesesteak!!!

Maybe we hit them at an off time because we ate at like 2 pm during the week? I'm hoping that's the reason. If that's not the reason, the place just flat out blows.

When I'm Teaneck Rd in the future, I'll stick with my boy Dave at the Jamaican Connection for real good jerk and escoveitch fish.
