There's a "Grecian Lamb Stew" recipe I've made for a couple Easters, but with the price of lamb I thought I'd try it with beef. The recipe calls for onion, garlic, parsley, crystallized ginger, saffron threads, beef broth, whole tomatoes, raisins. Topped with almonds and more parsley.
BUT I've also got a recipe for a Grecian Beef stew that calls for onion, garlic, beef broth, cinnamon, garbanzos, cubed eggplant, tomatoes, and Kitchen Bouquet.
So here's the question: I don't have an eggplant or saffron but was wondering about combining the two recipes since I do have a can of garbanzos and like cinnamon. But I need someone to tell me if combining all these flavors would work.
I suppose the safest thing to do would be just to make the first recipe and add the can of garbanzos. Would the raisins still be good in there with the garbanzos? Why do you think Kitchen Bouquet is called for in the 2nd recipe? Is it needed for the beef?
