just went to stevie's on the strip on jefferson and crenshaw. tried what j gold described as great smokey fried chicken and on the menu it's also listed as smokey fried chicken. anyways, ordered it up, and waited a considerable number of minutes (everything is supposedly prepared fresh to order), so got the fried chicken and it was all right though there was no discernible smokey-ness to the chicken, it was just like plain old fried chicken at that, i was hoping for something different aka deliciously different. oh, well, they also have oyster po boys and chicken link sandwiches some cajun/creole stuff like gumbo on certain days and bbq shrimp and a bunch of fried seafood plates which i have not garnered the gumption to try yet. also, beware that the prices are higher than what you would think upon entering the joint for the 1st time, stevie's looks like a fast-food joint complete w/ one of those lighted menus you always see at your junk food joint of choice. flossie's still remains the epitome of restaurant fried chicken in la, and to belabor the point paio (a long gone restaurant in silverlake) served some exceptional bbq fried chicken which was tremendously good but alas i only had the luck of trieing it once (they also had a great tian of crab there too).
