Oh my GOD this place was good. I highly recommend it to anyone.
We are a local family who have been eating out in new orleans for years. Stella! is instantly in our top 10 favorite restaurants list after only having eaten there once.
It is the most interesting mix of italian, asian, and creole cuisines I've ever seen (not that I've seen many, but still). i'm normally a creole purist, but everything here seemed a totally natural fusion and tasted amazing. there was not a single dish the four of us didn't like didn't like, some of which were revelatory. I had roasted duck with soy and cassis sauce, with some amazing foie gras won tons on the side. the appetizers and desserts (bananas foster french toast, "fallen" chocolate souffle cake) were ridiculously good.
The atmosphere is cozy--it's in the Provincial Hotel on Chartres St., and the dining room is the bottom floor of an old French Quarter cottage, with French doors and dark carpeting. A very small dining room with only a few tables, which adds to the feeling of specialness--they are there to serve YOU.
more about the service: our server Jeffrey was very very knowledgeable about food and wine, without being pretentious or in-the-way. every request was taken care of promptly and without unecessary fanfare. the perfect balance of good but unobtrusive service.
anyone who's serious about new orleans restaurant excellence should absolutely give Stella! a try.
