Stella Friday Night

Foodie2 | May 8, 2006 10:31 AM

Finally made it to Stella on Friday to use a Christmas gift cert. We called Friday and were told they weren't taking any more reservations for that evening, but that they don't hold reservations for the patio, so we could come and wait, which we did. Remarkably, we were seated within 10 minutes of waiting at the bar. This was a good thing because we were growing angry with the snooty and obnoxious attitudes of most of the employees and the utter disregard for us / our possible drink orders from the barstaff.

Our server was very helpful and friendly, and we split the caesar (good) and the mussels, which were the best part of the meal. They were served out of their shells, as was mentioned on an earlier thread, and in a rich curried cream sauce -- almost like a chockful o' mussels take on a chowder or soup. I had the pork milanese, which had received rave reviews on this board, and my SO had the steak frites. The pork was not impressive at all -- it was large, but breaded, dry, not too flavorful, and with an off-putting slice of melted (and congealed) mozzarella on top. The roasted tomatoes it came with were good. SO's steak was fine, fries were tasty. Not impressed enough to get dessert.

I would not return. $100 for the above dishes, one glass of wine each, in a fairly unpleasant, casual, and (dare-I-say-it?) dirty-seeming (the white interior is quickly grungy) restaurant is not my idea of fun. I do appreciate the board's honest opinions of restaurants, and thought I'd throw my two cents in, too.
