Steak suggestions for an unfussy man

Melissa | Oct 7, 2004 12:00 PM

My stepfather is about to turn fifty, and my mom wants the family to go out for a dinner filled with meat. He's a definite meat and potatoes guy, a classic South Philly Italian lover of pasta and all things carbs who's prone to fry up a thick pork chop for dessert at 11 pm rather than pull out the cookies. He's a fairly loud, brusque, unfussy guy who isn't comfortable with super-fancy service. I have no idea where we should go to dinner. My mom definitely wants to go into the city somewhere because he likes to take the train. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid places like Capital Grille are probably out because I don't think he'd be very comfortable there, but maybe I'm wrong about the type of service they provide.

Also, none of the steakhouses in the city have prices on the online menus. If, when making a suggestion, you could give me an approximate idea of price pp (without alcohol) that would be fantastic. Help me, Chowhound! You haven't steered me wrong yet.
