Stea(c)k frites and selfs.

Pantagruel | Oct 12, 2005 07:50 PM

Someone on the general discussion board asked what "steak frite" was, and from my recollection of living in Paris in the 70s I mentioned that the spelling if not always at least usually was "steack frites" – possibly influenced by the spelling of "bifteck."

Can anyone support this? Also, do the "self-service" places still exist, where steak and poulet frites were the staple and cost under ten francs, and you'd have it with hot mustard and a quarter liter of red wine that sold for around 1,80 FF?
