I've been eating a lot of breakfasts out lately. For quite a long time whenever I have toast with breakfast, I ask for the toast very brown, well done, crunchy. Most often those directions are heeded; sometimes not.
This morning my friend and I had brunch at Pizza Luce's in St. Paul. When the waiter came with our meals, he realized the so-called toasted English muffins were really warmed bread. He apologized, told us he gave the directions to the cook, and said he'd bring back well-toasted muffins. When he came back, he said he had to put them through the toaster 5 times to get them to that state of brownness.
We then had an extended discussion about the sorry state of toast in the Twin Cities. We asked if most customers complained about this and he said no. I thought I should bring this to the board. What are your thoughts?
I must give these directions for the muffin under my Eggs Benedict, any grilled sandwich, and pizza. I'd say I get white, warmed bread or doughy pizza at least 95% of the time I forget to say it.
