While we are a city blessed with the Reading Terminal, the start of spring has shown little at our Center City farmer's markets.
Both Saturday's 2nd and South market and yesterday's 12th St Market were disappointing. At each were only several tables with largely the same selection of fruit and veggies - strawberries, greens, green onion and several types of radishes.
This is my first year back in Philly after eight years visiting San Francisco's weekend market - an amazing bounty of fruit, vegetables, cheeses and artisan products. Lots of goodies with the dirt still on them, picked probably that morning.
Does the selection improve here over the spring and summer? Is this just the start of farmer's market season? Should I stick with the terminal and consider myself lucky to find unique gems around the city's other markets?
