Starting a Compost Pile

coll | Nov 15, 201107:20 AM     22

OK so I mowed the lawn which is half covered with leaves and figured out how to attach the catcher. They are somewhat chopped up and in a big pile under the brand new tarp I bought yesterday. Have a container of coffee grounds and veg peelings to add later today, and will continue to do so all winter long.

It is now mid-November, will this pile be good to go in the spring? Mostly oak leaves which are shredded but not very fine. I figure I can use it between the rows if nothing else.

And has anyone else ever had a problem with termites taking over the pile, like I did last time many years ago? So gross that we just carted the whole pile away. That is my biggest fear!
