Starter, side to go with halibut? I'm (atypically) stumped

We're having people over for dinner tomorrow night, and I just remembered my husband needs the car all day tomorrow. So instead of pottering around the market tomorrow morning and getting inspired, as I usually would, I have to decide NOW what I'm going to make, and go get everything I need tonight on the way home from work in a hurried shopping trip. I was thinking of doing a prosciutto-wrapped halibut filet thing that's in the current Bon Appetit, and for dessert a failsafe superdense, superdark chocolate cake from Cook's Illustrated that I've made many times. But what to start and what to serve on the side? I was thinking smallish portions of mushroom risotto (autumnal) for starter or side, but risotto is probably not a good dinner-party recipe because I don't want to be stirring while everyone else is hanging out in the living room. So what are some good, fall-like starters/sides? Recipes not needed, just ideas (I can find recipes)--what comes to your mind's palate when you think "complement to prosciutto-wrapped halibut"?
