Does anyone know what the vanilla powder that Starbucks has at its shops is called? I am referring to the one in the shaker by the milk and sugar. I love this stuff and want to have some at the office for my work coffee. Curious if there is a similar product available at the grocery store.
It's called vanilla powder. Go figure. It can be purchased through Amazon, King Arthur, and probably stores in large metro areas that sell Nielsen-Massey products (I doubt Nielsen-Massey is the only producer).
scrap vanilla bean into sugar, in batches pour sugar in coffee grinder, grind each batch to a powder. Add to your favorite (home made) starbucks drink, save money and enjoy!
This is supposed to be the brand Starbucks uses http://cooksvanilla.com/index.php?p=v...
The Spice House and Great American Spice Company also have vanilla powder available that sounds similar.
I finally stumbled upon this in a store this weekend (at Fred Meyer up in the Seattle area). Based on the fact I got the last 2 bottles, I think that when i have looked before it was out...and I have looked at this store before.
It was in the cooking isle with the rest of the vanilla products.
Now to determine a chocolate solution!
I was wondering the same thing. Vanilla powder purchased in stores in pure vanilla and is not sweet at all. Pure vanilla powder is also expensive. I suspect they use powdered sugar mixed with vanilla powder. I am going to try that mixture. It definitely has sugar in it.
So i shook some onto my palm and tasted it this morning.
It is NOT just vanilla.
Definately superfine sugar and vanilla powder. Not fluffy like confectioners sugar or powdered sugar.
It tasted very sweet with just a hint of vanilla, so i would think a 3parts superfine sugar to 1 part vanilla powder would be a starting point to get the same as Starbucks vanilla powder shaker.
Having never used the chocolate powder I have no idea what it might be. "My friend and I have been searching for what this is and where to buy it" --Are you asking about where to buy the vanilla powder? I have seen it at my local Fresh Market; the Nielsen-Massey powder is widely available.
I would guess these products are a close match
The Starbucks near me has Vanilla powder containing the following three ingredients: Dextrose, Vanilla and Vanilla Extract.
