Have you ever had a great meal and experience at a place, then gone back awhile later and been disappointed? Happened to me twice recently so thought I'd put this out and hear from others.
Went to Mkt the other night having made reservations a week in advance. Was promised 2 seats at the "Chef's Counter."
Arrived on time to a packed house and no seats at the Chef's Counter. Could have left, raised a fuss, or waited but opted to go with the flow and hang in there.
That was a mistake.
We were seated in the absolute worst place, right up next to the door with a view of the garage door hinge. The only lighting was smoky candles that stunk of paraffin. Every time the door opened we were hit with a blast of cold air. Asked for the candles to be removed and then we couldn't even see the food. I ordered the lamb. Without seeing it I could tell it was a little more than rare as the bites were cold. The drink I ordered kept getting forgotten about until it was served after my meal. The layout of this place is tight. Each time a patron or wait staff passed by we couldn't even skootch the chair in enough to avoid getting physically brushed up against. Worse, the manager (I think) gave me a nice back rub before he rubbed himself against me passing by. If it was on a bus, I would have hit him in the face for rubbing his privates on me. Ick! In the end we were just laughing about the whole thing as you can't make this stuff up. Just an awful experience. Too bad because I do like the food there but this night was an all time low.
I wonder if the management really knows how bad it was? I'll send this by email to them and see.
The next place I disappointed with is the Sorrento for Sunday breakfast. Cold waffle, cold plate, cold syrup. I mentioned it to the server and said I'm eating it because I'm hungry. He gave me a long explanation and took it off my bill.
Hey! I would have gladly paid for the waffle if it had been right. Again, do they have a clue?
What's your experience going back to a place you've had a good meal?
