Just tried Galangal on Atlantic Street in Stamford, which opened 2 days ago. (Actually, we were going to Irv's Dogs, a few doors down, when we saw that Galangal had opened and decided to give it a try). As far as I can tell, its the first SE Asian in Stamford, and a much needed addition.
Mostly Thai and Vietnamese, with a smattering of Indonesian on the menu. We split an order of Chao Tom (chopped shrimp wrapped around bamboo and grilled), which was excellent. We ordered from the lunch menu specials: my wife had lemongrass beef, which was mildly flavored, but a little chewy. I had basil chicken, which was very good, fairly spicy. We also had Thai iced tea, which was strong and sweet, with condensed milk on top. The meal was $33 including tax and tip, which seemed about right.
The room is bright and nicely decorated. The hostess told us that they have a jazz pianist on Friday and Saturday nights. We plan to go back and try it for dinner.
