Earlier in the month Michael B. recomended Stamey's in G'boro to an inquiry and I posted a response disagreeing. My experience had been at the Stamey's on Battleground, which everyone in our group that day agreed was not good at all. We all had barbeque plates and found it to be dry, but greasy tasting. This was at 2:00 to 2:30 on a Saturday, and we were the only people there at that late hour for lunch.
I was going through G'boro last night at dinner time, so decided to give it anouther try, based on Michael's response. This however, was at the High Point Road location, which is where they actually do the smoking. I was alone, so I only got a chopped sandwich, which is a large scoop of barbeque and slaw on a steamed bun. I stand corrected. What I had last night was quite different than our experience at the other location last year. One of the best barbeque sandwiches I have had. The meat was warm, tender and juicy, with a good smoked flavor, well balanced with a lexington style sauce that was not overpowering. The slaw cut through any heaviness to spice up the sandwich without losing the essence of the meat.
For Lexington Style I am still a Lexington Barbeque fan, but will have to add Stamey's to my list of top spots.
