Can the stainless steel layer actually wear away on stainless pans?

LindseyPortugal | Mar 8, 201509:05 AM

I have two (for now) demeyere pans but I was curious about stainless steel in general. I know that they have an aluminum core, but is it possible to actually scratch through or wear down the stainless steel coating/layer and have the aluminum leach through? I am assuming not...but I know that is one of the concerns with nonstick and/or ceramic is that it can chip and the aluminum can leach through.
