Stage Deli: Ridiculous Prices, Too Many Tourists, But Not Bad

We hit the Stage Deli for lunch the other day. I couldn't believe the prices there. I mean, c'mon--$15 to $20 for a sandwich? $8 or $9 for a soup? $8 for a beer? Yikes. And so it goes that our most expensive meal over the past few days in New York was at a deli of all places. As they say, irony can be pretty ironic sometimes...

The food was very good, though, and the sandwiches were huge (my corned beef sandwich had 25 slices of corned beef--yes, I counted them all, much to the embarrassment of my fellow diners). The matzah ball soup was excellent, and the pickles were pretty tasty.

Would I go back to the Stage Deli? Probably not, especially with so many other good delis in New York that are a whole lot cheaper (and have fewer people with cameras hanging from their necks). But it was nice to experience the place one time anyway, as none of us had ever been there before.
