This was the first I'd heard of Stacks
since I don't walk by Hayes St. that much.....but today I went with 3 co-workers for lunch. The place is very nice looking, but like sgwood415 says, it's kind of like Denny's but a bit better.
The iced tea tasted raspberry-ish, but in a slightly artificial way - would be better if they just served plain iced tea.
I had the Monte Cristo sandwich. This was very good, sliced into three pieces. Came with fries, fruit salad and green salad. Fries were thin, just OK. The salad served on the side was truly awful, with shriveled freezing cold lettuce, diced tomatoes (also freezing) and diced cucumber with some kind of weird Mexican-salsa-like dressing. Small fruit salad was pretty bad too....I've had much better on most airlines - style was very similar (one piece canteloupe, 2 grapes, etc.). I am slightly shocked that any SF restaurant (chain or not) would serve such bad salads.
One co-worker had a burger, which looked good, the other two had the chicken apple sausage and gouda omelettes, which were actually quite tasty. The bite I tried was very good - generous serving too.
Service was fine.
I had never been to any Stacks before, so I can't compare it to others in the Peninsula, etc.....but I doubt I'll be coming back here anytime soon unless I am craving a Monte Cristo sandwich. I'm glad it's in the neighborhood since perhaps the lines will now be less long at J's Pot of Soul.
