Hubby and I went to Mazarro's on 22nd Ave N. yesterday, as we were long out of good cheese. As we customarily do, we sat down at the coffee bar for a cuppa, but this time, we picked up goodies at the bakery counter first.
I got a "pecan bar," layers of crunchy toasted pecans on a tender, flaky crust, like a pecan pie square sans the goopy stuff. My husband had a massive brownie that he described as "almost fudge with nuts."
My complaint? It was way too good. For $2 each, we both got a treat that was beyond decadent on a scale of one to sin. These tasty tidbits were big enough to half or even cut into quarters. We ended up carrying a big chunk of each home.
We're trying to work our way through the extensive cheese selection there. This wek we're trying the "Cacio de Roma," a firm cheese with cracked peppercorns throughout. We also picked up some stilchester, an old favorite.
If only Mazarro's was closer (I'd get as fat as a horse).
