Forepaugh's was recommended to my wife as a nice restaurant to go to for our anniversary. (We are new to town.)
The restaurant is supposed to serve "Fine French Cuisine". I know it is not French and suspect it is regular midwestern fare. Heavy on starches and "out of the Campbell's soup can-tasting" creams. For appetizers, the French Onion Soup was passable but my Scotch Barley soup must have been from a can.
I had veal calvados that tasted like the thinly sliced "steaks" you get in a diner. My wife had beef filet with the requisite simple carbohydrates and over-salted sauces.
Service was poor, and very slow, likely owing to our deuce vs the more profitable large party groups.
This place is a glorified diner.
