st. paddy's day revelry rundown

i almost always avoid st. pat's but today i joined in at the end. i marathon walked from e97th and 1st ave all the way back home to w14th st and 8th ave. why? after a 9hr all day conference i needed the walk! so, i mostly walked down down 2nd ave.---first stop was SHIP OF FOOLS. it was wall to wall and guinness in a plastic cup was $6, ice cold and horrible. guess i was the fool. next stop on the way downtown was JAMESON. packed to the rafters but very very nice. lovely actually considering the prime post parade crowds. i had a jameson on the rocks--when in rome right? lots o' places had $5-$10 covers like PADDY REILLY'S so i said forget that noise! i walked on and finally made it down to MOLLY'S. ahhh, half full and a nicely poured murphy's stout which is hard to find these days. delish and restorative. after that, on to the OLD TOWN. it was mobbed, oh but what do you know upstairs was welcoming and almost empty. so i ordered what turned out to be the best corned beef and cabbage dish i've ever had, and i've had that a lot! nicely made. so tonight i'm beat and even passing up an invite to buzzy o'keefe's party at THE WATER CLUB but i sure had a nice 'ol ny style st. pat's day. i hope you all did too!
