A week ago I did a quick grab and run from the pre-cut cheese section at Berkeley's Market Hall Foods on 4th Street. St. Géric, a blue cheese from France, was new to me. The piece looked suitably ripe and the price was right ($16 per pound), so I bought it without tasting or asking anything about it in my hurry.

Well, I lucked out as this was quite a hit at the dinner party I attended. Turns out this is the sister cheese to the popular triple créme brie-style, St. Angel. Basically, it the blue version of the same buttery, ultra-creamy. rich bloomy cheese. The blueing is quite mild, just enough to give it a bit more character and depth on the sweet creamy base.
