I visited recently and wanted to pass on our food experiences.

We rented a villa with plans to cook a nice variety of fish. Unfortunately fresh fish is not so easy to find. Our rental agent and several other residents confirmed this.

Plaza Extra is a very well stocked grocery. There were many Whole Foods sort of items in stock and most prices weren't nearly as high as I had anticipated. Beer and wine is high on the island. We purchased frozen shrimp since fresh fish wasn't available.

Towards the end of our visit we found Seaside Market. This is a higher end grocery (prices reflect it) with beautiful produce and some fresh fish available. Some of the fish looked good, some not so much. At this point we needed to clear out our refrigerator so didn't buy any. They even had packets of fermented vegetables!

Most of our meals out were for lunch and we focused on fish.
Our lodging was on the East end so most of the restaurants reflect that.

Deep End Bar & Grill - Open air dining with a view of the pool, beach and Buck Island. Food and service very good - we ate here twice. Seared tuna appetizer and a mahi sandwich with mango relish were favorites.

Rhythms at Rainbow Beach (just N. of Frederiksted) was the perfect beach bar. Blackened mahi sandwiches, very good sweet potato fries and drinks were enjoyed on a deck just over looking the beach. Had it been closer we would have returned.

Angry Nate's on the boardwalk in Christiansted was visited. Spring rolls and fish sandwiches were had. Every thing was fine but not as tasty as our other lunches. The kitchen came out with fish scraps and fed them to a good sized school of tarpon awaiting just off the boardwalk!

Our last night we had dinner out at Blue Water Terrace. Their summer hours kept them from being a lunch option or we would have put them on the rotation. Not on the water but commands a very nice view. Food was very good as was the service. Portions are huge so we were glad we had passed on appetizers. Local lobster, shrimp and a melt in your mouth prime rib were ordered. Desserts looked gorgeous but we were too full to indulge.

The only bad meal was at Duggan's Reef. The owner sat us and displayed a very rude attitude right from the start. We thought perhaps they were ready to close and inquired when our waitress eventually came by. They weren't and we never could figure out what prompted his nastiness. But it was our first day and we were very hungry so we stayed. Fish and chips and a shrimp caesar salad were ordered. Seafood was fresh but preparation was off. Adequate but not good enough to tempt us back.

There were many other restaurants that looked promising. I was very interested in roti but my friends were not so did not get a chance.
