Okay, the mussels thread somehow made me hungry for squid. Then again, I'm almost always hungry for squid.
Any thoughts on the best squid dishes/restaurants in the DC area? The fried calamari rings found on many menus are a travesty - pre-cut frozen rings overcooked in a greasy batter and served with generic marinara sauce. I'm seeking recommendations for places that treat this delicate critter with respect. Extra points if they serve the tentacles (which I love).
My own candidate is pretty much any squid dish at Benjarong, particularly the chili and basil version. But I'm really craving grilled squid... maybe a Greek or Italian version?
(don't get me wrong, I love crunchy fried calamari with marinara sauce, but it's hard to find a truly good version)
