Let me just say this, bread is my downfall. So when I "splurge" on a sandwich, it better be worth it. Square One did not disappoint. I had the pressed ham sandwich with really good ham and provolone on a delish baquette nicely packed down, the cheese got all nice & melty and the bread perfectly toasted/pressed. Very high marks. As someone who can rarely indulge in a sandwich, this was worth every bite (though I was good and only ate half but SO tempted to eat the whole thing). I ordered fruit for an extra .75 and felt good about the whole experience.
The food here is SO much better than Alcove which is "okay, dog, but I don't know, just doesn't knock my socks off" (that's my AI homage). Though I'll give it up to Alcove on the atmosphere --
After chatting w the manager at Square One, I think the place is doing well on the weekends, but could use more business during the week (it's only been opened a few weeks).
So eastsiders go to Square One! (okay, it's in my best interest, the sooner they're a success, the liklier they'll open for dinner!).
