How do you use a spreadsheet to asist in meal planning?

Some of you have commented elsewhere that you use an excel spreadsheet to track and plan past and future meals. I can't seem to figure out how to set it up. Do you have the dates in one column and the meals in another column for each day? It would seem the columns would go on for several pages.
