PORTUGUESE- "POLVO GIZADO".
Years ago, in the Kensington Market, I walked into a fish market just to look around. I was brought up without fish dishes because my mother was not fond of fish and I was curious to explore this unknown world. Upon entering the premises my olfactory senses
were overwhelmed in a very good way with the mesmerizing aroma of an unidentifiable culinary preparation. Being very curious by nature, I inquired into the item that was being assembled behind the counter....... "POLVO" responded the Portuguese proprietor, "We making polvo for eating now, you want try"? Never the one to say no I agreed to wait the 10-15 minutes for a sampling. It was POLVO STEW made with octopus, potatoes and other sundry ingredients and it was extremely memorable in flavour. I have searched for this dish on numerous occasions but never found it on the menu or arrived in restaurants only to learn that they are all sold out etc.and eventually resigned to have that one time serving in my mind, only.
However, now that I have found Chowhound and I'm rediscovering all my lost food treasures I know that someone out there will know where the best seving of POLVO GIZADO can be found. Thanks........ I await your recommendations
